Pony Club Certificates
Pony Club Certificates
Riders are encouraged to attain certificates as they progress through Pony Club, starting with D certification through to A. Riders gain each level of certification by demonstrating a progressively more accomplished level of riding proficiency and sound knowledge of horse management.
Pony Club Certificate Exam and Assessments - there are 2 dates during each season set by the District Head Coach for riders from D+ to C+ certificates. B exams are organised by Auckland Area and A&H exams by NZPCA.
Coaching staff will put forward names of riders who have reached the standard to sit each level. Examiners and assessors are appointed by Manukau District Pony Club to conduct the exams. After the exam, there is a summing up with the examiners or assessors where parents are invited to hear feedback and confirmation of pass or fail.
At C+, B. H and A levels, there is an assessment first, then the exam is held 6 weeks later. At all these levels candidates may sit either HM or the riding section of the exam, or the whole exam in one day.
At D+ and C there is only one exam and riders must sit both sections of HM and riding to pass.
D Certificate is completed at rally by the Head Coach or an examiner.
The requirements for each level are contained in Pony Club Manuals 1 and 2 (these manuals are available for purchase through most saddlery shops). Riders keep track of their progress through the curriculum via record cards which are held by the branch.
Equine Skills Certificates
Riders can achieve Junior and Senior equine skills certificates, which are suitable for riders without horses.
Achievement Badges
Badges are earned for learning and showing competence in certain skills. These can be sewn onto your saddle blanket or shirt.
